Raghe Omar who Is the editor of the International Affairs of ITV news in the UK has recently published fake news about the Somaliland presidential elections slated for the 13 of Nov 2017.
The article published on ITV touched many subjects in the elections but also clearly and falsely accused Abdirahman Cirro , the presidential candidate of Waddani , as pro- Somalia and that he supports the federal republic of Somalia . Raghe has failed to substantiate this fake news and did not show any proof or source of his accusations .
Raghe has intentionally published on ITV news of the campaigns of Kulmiye party lead by his Uncle , Colonel Muse Bihi who is the presidential candidate of Kulmiye . He has clearly published in the article photos of the campaigners for Kulmiye and also the campaign events of Kulmiye party only.
It obvious that Raghe Omar has violated the codes of conduct of journalism by : 1) publishing Un- evidenced news on ITV 2): that he used his opinion as news on ITV NEWS. This is disgrace to Raghe who is a well-known journalist that has worked with Al Jazeera and the BBC and currently works with ITV /ITN
Raghe Omar has the right to support Kulmiye political party but he doesn’t have the right to defame Waddani party and its supporters. It is clearly nepotism and clan support for his uncle , Colonel Muse Bihi Abdi . Raghe doesn’t have the right to use the ITV news as platform to campaign for Kulmiye party while at the same time working as one of the news editors of ITV. Raghe should have stayed impartial in the political campaigns currently going on in Somaliland instead of supporting the party of his uncle.
It is worth mentioning that Mohamed Abdillahi Omar who is the brother of Raghe worked as the Foreign minister for the government of Shiekh Shariff in Somalia years ago. Mohamed Abdullahi Omar was member of the central committee of Kulmiye party before flying directly from Hargeisa to Mogadishu.
On the other hand, there are many of the relatives of Raghe that are part of the federal government of Somalia. For example Abdi Hashi Abdullahi who is the chair the upper house of the government is a relative of Raghe. The people of Somaliland respect the different opinions of the brothers Raghe and Mohamed who side with different governments. It unfortunate of Raghe to accuse others on being pro-Somalia.
Waddani political party is a Somaliland national party and is supported by millions of people in the country . It is a palpable lie to accuse the party of receiving support from the federal government of Somalia. Raghe Omaar should apologize to the supporters of Waddani party for publishing this fake news that has been sourced from his uncle , Colonel Muse Bihi.
