UAE, Eritrea decades of distinguished relations
The current visit of the Eritrean President is an addition to the strong relations between the two counties and opens new horizons of cooperation in all fields
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates, December 24, 2019/ — The UAE and Eritrea have enjoyed strong historic relations established since the era of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and continued its development and progress with the support of the leadership of the two countries that contributed to enhancing cooperation and has positive results on both countries.
In the light of these decades old strong relations, the UAE citizens have the privilege of entering Eritrea without a pre-entry visa, which mirrors the country’s pioneering international stature, which has opened wide horizons for Emiratis citizens to access all sectors, especially in the tourist, investment and trade domains in Eritrea.
The strong relations are sustaining thanks to the directives of the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and President of Eritrea, Isaias Afwerki for the benefit of the two friendly countries.
In this framework, the current visit of the Eritrean President is an addition to the strong relations between the two counties and opens new horizons of cooperation in all fields

African Entrepreneurs: Take Part in the Challenge of 1000 at the Africa-France Summit (4-6 June 2020)
By launching the “Challenge des 1000”, France is inviting 1000 African entrepreneurs to come and present their solutions at the Cité des Solutions
WINDHOEK, Namibia, December 24, 2019/ — Are you an African entrepreneur? Do you bring innovative solutions to foster the emergence of sustainable cities? Come and present them during the “Challenge des 1000”, on the occasion of the Africa-France 2020 summit.
By launching the “Challenge des 1000”, France is inviting 1000 African entrepreneurs to come and present their solutions at the Cité des Solutions, an exhibition dedicated to projects and solutions for sustainable cities and territories, which will be held during the 28th Africa-France Summit (Bordeaux, 4-6 June 2020).
Applications are open until 31 January 2020.
The selection of contractors will be based on the following criteria :
To be an African entrepreneur, with an activity related to one of the 7 districts of the Cité des Solutions;Gender parity of the 1000 Entrepreneurs;Geographical balance in terms of the origin of the Entrepreneurs;Balance of themes across the 7 districts*;To be the bearer of an innovative or duplicable solution, at a lower cost and with a strong impact to make French and African cities more sustainable from an environmental and social point of view;Be registered on the Digital Africa platform.

Somaliland: President Launches Local Products Expo
The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, opened an exhibition by local manufacturing and services companies in Hargeisa.
The exhibition, the first of it’s kind, features locally manufactured goods and services by indigenous companies.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, President Muse Bihi, encouraged local manufacturers to use their skill and knowledge to provide quality wares for the domestic market in order to curtail the prodigious amount of foreign exchange leaving the country as a result of the importation of products which can be made easily in Somaliland, such as household goods, utensils, etc.
The ceremony was attended by a delegation from the Oromia region of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia. The delegation are in Somaliland to hold bilateral talks on commerce, migration and other areas of mutual interest.
Somaliland plays host to a large expatriate community from the Oromia region of Ethiopia.

Somaliland: Extensive Discussions At Presidency On Election Schedule
The three Somaliland political parties, Kulmiye, Waddani and UCID have been holding extensive talks at the Preisency in Hargeisa.
The talks between the three party leaders, President Muse Bihi Abdi of Klumiye, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi ” Irro” of Waddani and UCID’s Faisal Ali Warabe, commenced after intervention and mediation conducted by elders and luminaries of the Somaliland Civil Society, to unblock the impasse pertaining to the long overdue parliamentary and local council elections.
The talks have been described as free and frank by insiders and there are hopes that all three parties will reach a consensus on the composition of the National Elections Commission, (NEC), the date for the elections and any other outstanding issues.
The parliamentary and local elections were postponed from 2017, 2018 and 2019, many Somalilanders and the international supporters of Somaliland, have steadily became frustrated with the inability of the national institutions to put aside political differences in order to keep the country on the progressive democratic path.
Senior delegation from the European Union, led by Ambassador Belanger, visited Somaliland on many occasions, including as recently as this month, December, 2019, to facilitate any discussions between the political parties.
All in all, Somaliland’s much heralded democratic credentials will become severely tainted, unless, parliamentary and local council elections are held as early as possible.
